I’m still on my self-imposed writing wrist break, but that hasn’t stopped me from thinking about what I want to create once my enforced vacation ends. While much of that rumination has been around the Sean Colbeth book I’m planning on starting next month, an idea for a holiday story featuring Dr. Rosalia Frankenhoffer (a side character in my Vasily Korsokovach Investigates series) has also been percolating in the background; after I finished Baubles, I’d thought about doing something with Rosie nearly immediately, but wound up setting her aside to focus on the next novel instead.
That idea has kicked around for some time, obviously, and probably came back to the forefront of my considerations when I realized Silenced and Aftermath were going to bookend Christmas — at least, in the fictional timeline in which my universe exists. There was also this really wild, somewhat unplanned connection tying Silenced directly into Baubles, especially in the final chapter of the novel. It’s too good an opportunity and one that I am embracing completely. Besides, who doesn’t love a Hallmark-worthy Christmas tale? I never tire of that formula, no matter how times I’ve seen it on screen.
